University of Texas at Austin Resume Workshop

Jan. 27, Austin TX —  Spire Consulting Group, LLC teamed up with The Construction Leadership Council (CLC) Austin Chapter to host the first inaugural Resume Building Workshop at the University of Texas at Austin.  Around twenty graduate students from the Construction Engineering and Project Management program attended the event which was held in the engineering building on campus.  While the graduate students ate their pizza, they were introduced to Spire, the AGC and the CLC . After the introduction, the workshop leaders shared their experiences and expertise on everything from resume content and format to career fair and interview do’s and don’ts.  Leaders also touched on the ever-growing use of social media and how to utilize sites like Facebook and LinkedIn to further display skills and qualities companies are looking for.  The workshop was especially interesting in that nearly all of the students were from outside of the United States where resumes and job processes can be vastly different.  After a 45-minute presentation, the workshop leaders split up and reviewed individual resumes with each student.  Leaders touched on points made during the presentation and provided personalized recommendations for each resume.  The students seemed to really appreciate the one-on-one time spent with each of them, and we could tell they were excited to tidy up their resumes and interview skills for the upcoming Spring Engineering Expo where they would be searching for internships and full-time positions.  Spire and the CLC enjoyed hosting the workshop and even managed to learn a few things as well.
