Austin Independent School District (AISD) has undertaken an 18-school demolition, renovation, and new construction initiative. The program is comprised of a total of 1.6 million square feet, which will be used to solve the District’s overcrowding predicament and modernize its learning spaces. The project includes various components, including the construction of the school facilities, totaling $727 million, and the 2017 Bond Program totaling $1.1 billion.

As part of the AECOM team, Spire is delivering project and construction management services under the direction of the Superintendent of Schools and focuses on providing bidding and procurement management, program controls, A/E coordination, construction coordination, and post-construction management services. Spire leads the day-to-day construction management oversight and works to ensure the project meets schedule and budget goals. Additionally, Spire oversees all design and construction costs of the 18-school project, including 1.6 million square feet of demolitions, renovations, new constructions, and additions.

The construction projects included in the Bond’s scope of work support the District’s objective of reinventing public education. Through the implementation of bright, innovative, 21st-century learning spaces and state-of-the-art technology, the Bond Program is creating an environment for learning that will inspire creativity and productivity in AISD students for years to come.

Spire Consulting Group AISD school project

Spire has developed a construction project management approach based on our origin as a claims consulting firm. This background gives us a unique and in-depth understanding of what can go wrong on a project. We use this knowledge to identify potential trouble spots before they develop into problems, and to recommend or initiate preventive action through strategic planning and controls. We vigilantly watch over all aspects of a project, from design review and long-lead items through schedule and budget updates and inspection during construction. As Project/Construction Managers or Owner’s Representatives, Spire has managed all phases of the construction process from pre-design through completion, including cost/budget controls, scheduling, estimating, expediting, contract administration, inspections and control of contractors and suppliers.

Successful construction project management of complex jobs demands a proactive approach, managed by professionals who have the experience, skills and technical support each project requires. Spire’s professionals have hands-on experience in managing even the most challenging projects.
